Tourism and Disability

 

The national “Tourism and Handicap” label provides people with disabilities with reliable, consistent and objective information on the accessibility of tourist sites and facilities, for the four major types of disability (motor, visual, auditory and mental )

The Carcassonne Tourist Office is labeled

  •  physical disability ,
  •  mental disability,
  •  hearing disability,
  • visual disability.

 

The Carcassonne Municipal Tourist Office is committed to the “Tourism and Handicap” labeling process in order to provide its customers with a quality welcome and accessible facilities. Two agents of the reception service followed awareness training on "Reception of disabled people in OTSI"

 

Actions for physical disabilities :

 

City office:

Presence of 12 spaces intended for PRMs opposite the main entrance to the City, access to the tourist information office via the Pont-Levis and rue Cros Mayrevieille.

 

 

When crossing the Porte Narbonnaise, a small difficulty arises in front of the Levis Bridge, presence of large cobblestones, once the entrance is crossed, you go up the main street which starts after the porch, always straight until reach the 2nd intersection on the right, impasse Agnès de Montpellier.

You will find a sign with the logo with the wheelchair indicating "Office de Tourisme"

 

Entrance is through a courtyard which is accessed through an open gate leading to the entrance door to the office. The office intended for PRMs is located at the back right next to the toilets.

 

Presence of adapted toilets.

 

Downtown office

Development of a parking space up to standards with a protected path to the nearby Tourist Office, accessibility of our structure, presence of adapted toilets.

 

 

Loan of a wheelchair at the two tourist offices (City: impasse agnès de Montpellier. Bastide: 28 rue de Verdun)

 

Actions for mental disabilities :

Clarity in the provision, by theme, of our various brochures and posters.

 

Actions for hearing disabilities :

Provision in our premises (Cité Médiévale and Bastide Saint Louis) of a welcome kit for hearing impaired people consisting of a rechargeable personal listening system (Comfort Duett) which amplifies the sound of a conversation as well as than an MP3 magnetic collar which can reproduce the stereo sound of an MP3 player without loss to the hearing aid.

 

Actions for visual disabilities :

Provision of a presentation of the city in Braille and in enlarged characters.

Audio-guides that can be used by accompanied blind people.

Possibility to book a guided tour in sign languages.

The Carcassonne Tourist Office website is also designed to be usable, navigable and understandable by any type of Internet user, regardless of the software used : browsers of any operating system, braille display, speech synthesis software .
