Located in a valley of Lauragais, this Benedictine abbey, seat of an ancient bishopric for five centuries, is closely linked to the figure of Saint Papoul, martyr of the third century. Discover 1200 years of history through the Romanesque chevet of the church carved by the Master of Cabestany, the Gothic cloister and its carved capitals, the chapter house, the refectory of the monks (place of exhibition), and the baroque choir of the old cathedral. Nearby, the village is an old fortified town, with its narrow streets enamelled half-timbered houses. Dedicated to Saint Papoul, who was martyred on the town, this abbey, with its remarkable cloister of the 14th century, concentrates the greatest number of Romanesque sculptures of the Master of Cabestany in the Aude.
