Lecture at Carcassonne

  • In fine arts, it is always better to have some keys to read works and artists. Thus, when it comes to pictorial art, it is usual to link painters to a "painting school". Come to attend a conference presented by Marie-Laure Ruiz-Maugis, art historian on the painter Zurbarán Friday, October 11 at 17:00. Francisco de Zurbarán (Fuente de Cantos, 1598- Madrid, 1664) is a fundamental painter in Spanish painting best embodying certain characteristics of the Spanish Golden Age. A contemporary and friend of Velasquez, Zurbarán stands out in religious paintings - where his art reveals a realism imbued with human simplicity, a deep mysticism, a great rigor in the design punctuated with fine details. At first very marked by Caravaggio, his austere and dark style evolves to become closer to the Italian Mannerist masters. Free
