France can be proud of having had a great singing school of which Sophie Koch is the worthy heir: she has performed on all the major stages of the world, Covent Garden in London, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Staatsoper de Vienna, Paris Opera… A mezzo-soprano with an eclectic repertoire, she shines in the works of Strauss, Wagner, Mozart, Glück, not to mention the French heritage that she ardently defends. She does not stop at singing in well-known works such as Berlioz's La Damnation de Faust, she reveals to the general public little-performed operas such as Chausson's Le Roi Arthus, Ariane et Barbe bleue by Dukas. A generous personality whose motto could be "serve the work and not herself", Sophie Koch also wants to share her experience with younger generations. Professor at La Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth in Brussels and at the Institut Supérieur des Arts in Toulouse, she agreed to participate alongside José Van Dam in masterclasses within the framework of the International Academy of French Music created by Michel Plasson. We thank her for coming to Carcassonne to present a quartet of singers chosen from among her students who already have a foothold in their career. Through excerpts from works by Jacques Offenbach ranging from La Grande-duchesse de Gerolstein to La Vie Parisienne, including La Belle Hélène, Orphée aux Enfers and La Périchole, they will give us a taste of the joy of living in music.
