The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Carcassonne continues its educational approach to make art accessible to as many people as possible. The new cycle of conferences revolves around great names in modern art, symbolizing both an era, violent and exhilarating, and movements that will make a mark. Speaker: Marie-Laure Ruiz-Maugis, art historian Abstract art is an international movement that dominates much of the 20th century. It breaks with the traditional conception of art as an imitation of nature and represents shapes and colors for themselves. But this movement did not take shape ex-nihilo. Indeed, from the 1910s, many artists gradually moved from figuration to abstraction. Kandinsky, the first, imposes a new language in which large colored masses combine freely with lines, without any reference to the objective world. Then Mondrian, Malevich, Kupka search, starting from the observation of nature, a geometrical and mathematical language which rationalizes the vision of the world. The Second World War saw the birth of a new abstraction. Nicolas de Staël also walks between figurative art and abstract art. And in its forms are written our sensations, our emotions, our personal tides. Health pass and wearing a mask compulsory
