After the sparkling Overture of La scala di seta, one of his very first operas, Rossini will enchant us with his Bassoon Concerto, composed as an examination piece, during his residency in Bologna as an honorary consultant at the Conservatory, for one of the extremely talented students, Nazzareno Gatti. This emerges immediately from the work with its highly diversified movements and virtuoso features intended to highlight the soloist. It is Rodolphe Bernard, principal bassoon of the Orchester national Montpellier Occitanie, who will perform this formidable concerto. To close this program, Pulcinella Suite. On a commission from Serge Diaghilev, creator of the Ballets Russes, Stravinsky delved into the manuscripts of Pergolesi, an 18th century Italian composer, to write this ballet music. The result surprised everyone, starting with Diaghilev himself. This theme borrowed from Pergolesi was very beautiful. The Suite which we will hear here was taken from it two years later, in 1922. It places the vocal parts written for the ballet in the orchestra and reduces the score to eleven pieces. A delight!
